something about marlena.

she can bake banana bread by heart, cannot touch her tongue to her nose, currently chews copious amounts of Extra® Watermelon gum, only knows meager French insults but can sing all of Hardy, and has decided that she is not really from anywhere.

born in san diego, “homes” include los angeles, ca; franklin, tn; nice, france; prague, czechia (or the czech republic); and burbank, ca. studied history of science (on the medicine and society track) and french with a secondary in global health and health policy, marlena graduated college in may 2022. she is still studying history of science, but this time in france.

her roots in storytelling stem from a borrowed point-&-shoot in middle school, to old-school film cameras in high school—rolling film in pitch-black rooms and developing only black & white—to digital manipulation with adobe programs. her background in film now informs how she approaches the effects of exposure patterns in digital photography, how she explores transparency in oil paint, and how she relocates stories in words once again.
